International Girl Child Day is celebrated on October 11 every year to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world, StechiteGist Media learned.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 on December 19, 2011, to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child. The theme for International Girl Child Day 2023 is “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being”.
The day is a global platform to advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
The significance of the day is to invest in realizing the power of girls, which upholds their rights today and promises a more equitable and prosperous future, one in which half of humanity is an equal partner in solving the problems of climate change, political conflict, economic growth, disease prevention, and global sustainability.
The day is celebrated to raise awareness and eradicate the problems of discrimination, inequality, and exploitation faced by girls and women.
