Fire Guts Sopurum Hotel in Onitsha (Photos)

A massive fire has destroyed Sopurum Hotel, a famous enterprise in Onitsha’s Nkwelle neighbourhood, Anambra State. The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, consuming a substantial amount of the structure.

At this moment, the specific cause of the fire is unknown. The fire was said to have begun approximately 4:30 a.m. Firefighters from Delta and Anambra states rushed to the area and are currently battling to get the situation under control.

The Anambra Fire Chief, Engr Martin Agbili, has not yet responded to the event. However, the police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, verified the incident and assured that no lives were lost in the inferno.

“We received the information around 4:30 a.m., and our personnel were promptly deployed to the scene to cordon off the area,” Ikenga said. We are taking efforts to prevent any looting or theft attempts during this terrible tragedy. The issue is currently under control, and we are grateful that no reported casualties have occurred. Our personnel, together with the fire department, are still on the scene.”
