Bayo Onanuga, who is in charge of media and publicity for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, said that presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was not rushed off the stage at his rally in Minna, which is the capital of Niger State, because of health concerns.
Onanuga said that the number of people who came to the rally to welcome Tinubu was so big that the former governor of Lagos State had to give a short speech.
He said this in a statement that was posted on the website of Senator Kashim Shettima, who is running for president with the APC, and his running mate, who is also a senator.
The statement said, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the APC, arrived at the mega rally in Minna on Wednesday, where he was met by a huge crowd of supporters.
“Journalists at the Trade Fair Complex, where the rally was held, said that they had never seen so many people cheering.
“On Tuesday, Tinubu held another successful rally in Kaduna. That same day, he went to Minna for a series of meetings with APC leaders.
“There were so many people there that Tinubu only had a few minutes to thank the supporters and name the party candidates running for office.
“Contrary to rumors, he didn’t have to leave the stage quickly because he was sick. Tinubu cut it short so he could go to other events that day.
“He praised the supporters of his party for coming out in large numbers to see the start of the presidential campaign,”
After the rally, Tinubu opened his campaign office in the city. Mohammed Malagi, publisher of the Blueprint newspaper and chairman of the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council’s Strategic Communications Committee, gave the office to Tinubu.
