Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, better known as Sarkodie, has addressed recent allegations made by his ex-girlfriend, actress Yvonne Nelson, in his new single, ‘Try Me [Raw]’.
Yvonne Nelson shared in her recently published book titled ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’ her experience of aborting her first pregnancy owing to her fatherless childhood and her anticipation that the child’s father would accept responsibility. Sarkodie, she alleged, had refused to keep the pregnancy.
Sarkodie, on the other hand, disputes Yvonne Nelson’s claims in his latest song, claiming that he really encouraged her to keep the pregnancy despite not being ready to become a father. In the opening stanza, he raps, “Yes, I wasn’t ready, but then I told you to keep it.” So don’t make it appear as if I was pressuring you to have an abortion.”
Sarkodie appreciates Yvonne Nelson’s book’s success, but believes it attracted attention due to the bad things she presented. “Not because your book is really good,” he says, “but we live in a world where negativity sells,” emphasising the power of negativity in attracting public attention.
Furthermore, the rapper encourages Yvonne Nelson to accept responsibility for her actions and avoid personal attacks. He emphasises that no one else is to blame for her life decisions.
With this reaction, Sarkodie has entered the public debate over Yvonne Nelson’s book, offering his viewpoint on the claims levelled against him and explaining his position on the topic.
