FACT-CHECK: Is Africa Cancer Foundation Offering Free Breast Cancer Treatment

The identical message encouraging breast cancer patients to email Dorothy Nyong’o, Managing Trustee of the Africa Cancer Foundation, for free treatment has been circulating on social media for a few weeks.

StechiteGist Media reports that a message has been circulating on WhatsApp, claiming that Africa Cancer Foundation is offering free breast cancer treatment in 2024. However, the article verifies that this claim is false.

The Foundation has published a statement on its website stating that no free surgeries are being offered this year due to lack of funding. The message being circulated is out-of-date and no longer relevant.

The Foundation had embarked on a free cancer screening and treatment venture in 2022, but this is no longer ongoing.

In order to “save that woman’s life,” recipients of these WhatsApp messages are urged to share and forward them to groups by March 7 at the latest.

FIJ saw the message, which said, “Goodwill message, dear all.” Please tell any woman you know who is fighting breast cancer, no matter what stage, to get in touch with [email protected] by March 7th. There are no costs associated with the treatment.

“Please spread the word to groups and share this message; together we can save that woman’s life.”
