Recently, rumors have been circulating that Disney has deleted Bible verses from the New Testament, specifically Matthew 17:21. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that these rumors are unfounded.
Matthew 17:21 is a verse that is not present in the earliest manuscripts of the New Testament that we possess.
Modern translations of the Bible, therefore, do not include this verse. The assumption that this verse must be original and was willfully removed is incorrect. Rather, later scribes added these words, and they are not part of what Matthew actually wrote.
The controversy surrounding Disney and Matthew 17:21 began when the writer of the film “A Wrinkle in Time,” Jennifer Lee, defended the removal of Bible references, including Jesus, from the movie.
Lee stated that she wanted to be more “inclusive” and focus on the battle between light and darkness, which she described as being “universal”.
However, this controversy has nothing to do with the alleged deletion of Matthew 17:21 from the Bible.
It is important to note that the Bible has undergone numerous translations and revisions over the centuries, and some verses have been added or removed over time. However, these changes were made based on the available manuscripts and scholarly research, not due to any nefarious intent.
